{spoiler=7M07204 «Energy Transition»(in Petroleum Industry) }
Duration of study: 2 years
Academic degree: Master of Science in Engineering
Language of instruction: English
Prerequisites:
• Introduction to Petroleum Engineering (5 ECTS)
• Oil Production Technology and Techniques (5 ECTS)
Program Objectives:
To train highly qualified specialists in the field of energy transition who meet the modern criteria of the energy industry and possess the necessary competencies to contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals.
Energy transition refers to the global shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources, facilitating a broader transition toward a carbon-free economy by mid-century. This process is supported by a collective international commitment to limit global warming to below 2°C in accordance with the Paris Agreement and nationally determined contributions (NDCs).
The global transformation anticipated during the transition period will require changes in extractive industries and create new risks and opportunities for resource-dependent countries. As global fossil fuel consumption declines, countries reliant on revenues from oil and coal industries will face challenges related to declining sectoral income.
For mining and energy companies, the increased use of renewables and clean technologies will drive demand for critical minerals such as cobalt, lithium, and copper, potentially leading to increased investment in these sectors.
Learning Outcomes:
LO-1 To analyze current trends and the state of the energy sector in Kazakhstan and globally in order to identify key challenges and opportunities for development.
LO-2 To formulate possible approaches and strategies for achieving sustainable development goals, considering global and national contexts.
LO-3 To solve applied engineering problems and design mechanical systems based on renewable energy sources, focusing on efficiency and sustainability.
LO-4 To classify modern approaches and technological solutions aimed at achieving carbon neutrality, using advanced methods.
LO-5 To link elements of financial literacy with the principles of sustainable development and express them within the modern energy sector.
LO-6 To analyze the potential for using renewable energy sources to support the achievement of sustainable development goals.
LO-7 To formulate a deep and well-reasoned understanding of critical success factors for companies and industries in the energy sector.
LO-8 To interpret economic models in the context of planning and implementing renewable energy projects.
LO-9 To understand the principles and methods of technological calculations and system schemes for renewable energy installations.
LO-10 To develop conceptual approaches to the necessity of energy transition, considering technical, economic, and environmental criteria.
LO-11 To develop and organize software solutions for addressing specific tasks related to the use of renewable energy sources.
