The School of Energy and Oil and Gas Industry dates back to the origins of the university, established by Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 1027 dated August 3, 2001 in pursuance of the Memorandum of Understanding between the former Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the British Council on the establishment of the Kazakh-British Technical University, signed in London on 16 December 2000 by the first President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

Our school was formed from the previous “Faculty of Energy and Oil and Gas Industry”, which included the departments of “Oil and Gas Engineering”. “Engineering and Physics Department”, “Chemical Technology of Organic Substances”, “Geology and Subsoil Protection” and “Marine Engineering and Technology”. At different periods, the faculty was headed by deans: Doctor of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Professor Baybatsha Adilkhan Bekdildauly, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Daukeev Dias Kenzhebekovich, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Mirzakhodzhaev Asylbek Ashimovich and Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Usupov Sabiy Seitkazievich.

The Department of Oil and Gas Engineering was headed by such famous scientists and talented organizers as Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Khairov Galiy Bakhitzhanovich, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor Kabdulov Serik Zeinullich, Candidate of Technical Sciences, PhD Ismailov Abdulakhat Abdukarimovich, Candidate of Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Doctor PhD Bekmukhametova Zaure Arstanovna, PhD Arymbekov Beken Sagatbekovich, MSc Mankhanova Azhar Erlanovna, MSc & MBA Kuralkhanov Darkhan Kadylbekovich, who in a short time were able to unite capable youth and conduct fruitful scientific research on a wide range of issues in the field of oil and gas engineering.

In the period 2010-2011, the departments of “Engineering and Physics”, “Chemical Technology of Organic Substances” and “Marine Engineering and Technology” became separate faculties, and two departments remained within the faculty: “Oil and Gas Engineering” and “Geology and Subsoil Protection”. The faculty was headed by Bekmukhametova Zaure Arstanovna. In 2018, the departments were separated and became independent faculties. From 2018 to 2021, the faculty was headed by deans: PhD Tikebaev Talgat Asanbaevich, MSc & MBA Kuralkhanov Darkhan Kadylbekovich, Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Ongarbaev Erdos Kalimullauly. From 2021 to the present, this post is headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences, PhD Ismailov Abdulakhat Abdukarimovich. Along with them, doctors of technical sciences and professors worked shoulder to shoulder: Kashkinbaev Ismagul Zairovich, Akhmedzhanov Tlevkhan Kuromzhanovich, Sheikh-Ali Askar Davletovich, Sigitov Vladimir Borisovich, Abdeli Dayrabay Zhumadilovich; Candidates of Technical Sciences: Dzhienbaeva Kalamkas Idrisovna, Musabaev Malik Omarovich, Karaulov Zhusip Karaulovich; MSc Nasibullin Bauyrzhan Muratovich, Tatichshev Saken Kamiltaevich and others.

Our school at the university, which has the status of international importance, has made a huge contribution to research activities in training personnel for the oil and gas industry of Kazakhstan, created conditions for ensuring the interconnection of innovation, research and educational blocks, including for the real integration of science, education and production.

Until 2004, students were trained and graduated in a specialty - the classical level of higher education, which lasted five years, where they received not only basic, but also in-depth knowledge in the chosen field of study with the assignment of professional qualifications in the following profiles: “Drilling of oil and gas wells” , “Development of oil and gas fields” and “Design, construction and operation of gas and oil pipelines and gas and oil storage facilities.”

In March 2010, Kazakhstan officially joined the Bologna Declaration and became the 47th member of the European Higher Education Area and the first Central Asian state to be recognized as a full member of the European educational area.

After joining the Bologna process, serious changes occurred in the higher education system of Kazakhstan:

1. Kazakh universities joined the Great Charter of Universities, which has now been signed by more than 650 universities around the world, which has made it possible to bring domestic education closer to European standards. The Magna Carta was signed by more than 60 Kazakh universities.

2. A transition has been made to a three-level model of specialist training: bachelor – master – PhD, based on the principles of the Bologna Declaration.

Many of our graduates are strong oil specialists working in well-known oil companies, high-class engineers, and now they are the pride of our university.

The team of the School of Energy and Oil and Gas Industry, without stopping there, pays great attention to the opening of new laboratory bases where it is possible to conduct fundamental scientific research on the use of results to solve scientific and industrial problems.

The successes of our teachers do not go unnoticed; they are awarded awards and encouragements from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and oil and gas companies.
