Bachelor’s Program of School of Chemical Engineering (SCE ), KBTU

The SCE program is internationally accredited by IMarEST (Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology, UK Royal Engineering Council) and licensed by the international agency BTEC. It has been ranked the best in Kazakhstan for the last 8 years according to IQAA (Independent Kazakh Agency for Quality Assurance in Education).

Program Goal:
To train highly qualified specialists in modern oil and gas processing technologies, polymer materials, organic synthesis, petrochemistry — aimed at solving innovation-driven challenges in key areas of the oil refining and petrochemical industries.
Program Content:
The key criteria for completing the educational process include:
• Mastering at least 143 academic credits of theoretical coursework
• Completion of academic, industrial internships, and dual education
• Passing the State Exam in History of Kazakhstan
• Preparing and defending a diploma project
Core Courses (in addition to mandatory and general education subjects):
• Introduction to Chemical Engineering
• Hydrocarbon Processing Technology
• Catalysis in Petrochemistry and Oil Refining
• Industrial Ecology of Oil Refining and Petrochemistry
• Basics of Equipment and Plant Design
• Simulation of Chemical-Technological Processes using Modern Software (MathLab, AutoCAD, Aspen Hysys, Python)
• Polymer Materials Production
• Technology of Fine Organic Synthesis
• Financial Analysis and Project Evaluation
• Corrosion Protection of Petrochemical Equipment
• Dual Education
The program also offers elective disciplines within the specialty.
Graduates gain knowledge and engineering skills in:
• Modern oil refining and petrochemical technologies for producing organic substances, polymers, synthetic products, surfactants, etc.
• Hydrocarbon feedstock processing into targeted products, reagents, and functional polymer materials
• Catalytic processing of hydrocarbon gases, catalysis in petrochemistry and refining
• Fundamentals of equipment and plant design, process modeling using Aspen Hysys, ChemCAD, AutoCAD, MathLab

Dual Education System:
SCE implements a dual education system, which combines classroom learning with on-site industrial training. This enhances employer involvement in the educational process and significantly boosts graduate employability. Our students undergo dual education at refineries in Kazakhstan (ANPZ, PNHZ, PetroKazakhstan), Romania (RomPetrol), and others.

Career Prospects:
SCE graduates are in high demand in Kazakhstan's job market and are successfully employed in national and international companies:
KazMunayGas, TengizChevroil, NCOC, Petrofac (UAE), Atyrau Oil Refinery, Schlumberger, Halliburton, MaerskOil, Medherant (UK Pharma), and pursue graduate studies in top global universities:
KTH Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden), Warwick University (UK), Tokyo Institute of Technology (Japan), and others.
