Kazakhstan hosted IFLA WLIC for the first time — and the KBTU Scientific Library was at the heart of global library events.
The year 2025 became a milestone for Kazakhstan’s library community: for the first time in history, our country had the honor to host the IFLA World Library and Information Congress (WLIC) — the largest professional forum that brings together global library leaders, scholars, technology companies, and knowledge experts.
Hundreds of participants from more than 100 countries gathered in Astana to discuss the future of libraries in the era of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and evolving educational models.
The team of the KBTU Scientific Library became part of this large-scale international event.
We attended key sessions and panel discussions, explored the latest global trends, and observed how leading libraries shape next-generation user experience.
During these days, we:
listened to presentations from experts from Europe, Asia, and the United States;
discovered innovative services of the libraries of the future;
discussed digital transformation, research support services, data management, and the role of libraries in the age of AI;
expanded our international professional network;
identified best practices that can be adapted for KBTU.
Why this matters for us and for Kazakhstan
Hosting IFLA WLIC 2025 is not only a matter of prestige. It is an opportunity to show the world that Kazakhstan is evolving as an intellectual and educational hub of the region, open to innovation and international collaboration.
For the KBTU Scientific Library, participation in this congress became:
a powerful source of new ideas,
an opportunity to study global approaches,
a platform for professional exchange,
and an inspiration for further development of our services and infrastructure.
